Stat card maker

Sometimes the best chart is one huge number. Up to three statistics, the first one biggest, with your source underneath.

Alt text for accessibility

How to make it

  1. Put your headline number in the first row with a short line explaining it.
  2. Add up to two supporting numbers, or leave just one for maximum impact.
  3. Use the prefix and suffix ($, %, ×) for the headline number; supporting numbers are shown plain, so put their unit in the label.
  4. Always add a source. Statistics without one get screenshotted and doubted.

When it works, and when it doesn’t

Use it for

  • Milestones and results posts.
  • A striking fact from a report, with its source.
  • The cover slide of a carousel.

Pick something else for

  • Numbers without context: say “38% more saves than last month”, not just “38%”.
  • Mixing units without labels.
  • Unsourced statistics.

Design tips

One number, one idea

The first row is drawn largest. If the others do not support the same point, move them to another slide.

Make the label do work

Write the label as the rest of a sentence: “38%” + “more saves than last month”.

Cite properly

Name the organisation and year in the source field, for example “Pew Research Center, 2025”.

Questions

What is a statistic infographic?

A graphic built around one or a few numbers, set large enough to read in a feed, with a short label and a source. It is the simplest and often most shared form of data graphic.

How many numbers should a stat card have?

One is strongest. Two or three work when they support the same point. More than that becomes a table.

Each number needs a different unit. Is that possible?

Yes. The prefix and suffix apply only to the headline (first) number. The supporting numbers are shown plain, so write their unit in the label, for example “240” + “new newsletter sign-ups”.

Can I use this for carousel cover slides?

Yes. Use the 4:5 size and your brand kit, then make the charts for the following slides with the same palette and font.
