ChartBeauty / Progress bar generator
Progress bar generator
Where you are, where you are going, and how far that is in per cent. Rings or bars, up to four goals at once.
Quick answer: Enter where you are and your goal. You get the percentage as a ring, bars or a fundraising thermometer to download, plus a copy-and-paste text progress bar (▓▓▓▓▓░░░) for captions, bios and chats.
Alt text for accessibility
Progress chart titled “Road to 10K followers”. Followers 7,420 of 10,000 (74%).
Text progress bar generator
Images can’t go in captions, bios, X posts or chat messages, but text can. Build a progress bar out of characters and paste it anywhere.
Emoji bars are wider, so 10 characters is a good length for captions. Each step is 10% of the goal.
Start from a template
How to make it
- Enter what you are tracking, the current value and the goal.
- Pick rings for one or two headline goals or bars for a checklist of up to four.
- Add a date or “updated weekly” in the subtitle so followers know it is current.
- Export at 9:16 for stories and save your brand kit so next week’s update takes seconds.
When it works, and when it doesn’t
Use it for
- Follower, subscriber or fundraising goals.
- Challenge trackers: 30-day streaks, books read, kilometres run.
- Project milestones for build-in-public posts.
Pick something else for
- Goals without a clear finish line.
- Showing more than four goals on one image.
Where does the bar start?
“74% of the way to 10K” sounds great, but if you started the challenge at 5,000 followers you have only covered about half the distance. Move the starting point to see both readings.
From zero 74% · from start 48%
To chart progress from your starting point, enter (now − start) as the current value and (goal − start) as the goal.
Design tips
Update the same graphic
Your inputs are remembered in this browser, so next week you only change one number and re-export.
Over 100% is allowed
Beat your goal? The ring fills and the label shows the real percentage, such as 112%.
The goal-gradient effect
People push harder as they near a finish line, an effect documented by Kivetz, Urminsky and Zheng (2006). Sharing progress publicly can work the same way for your audience.
Questions
How is the progress percentage calculated?
Current value ÷ goal × 100. For 7,420 followers towards 10,000 that is 74.2%, shown rounded as 74%.
Can I show progress from a starting point other than zero?
Subtract the starting value from both numbers first. Going from 5,000 to 10,000 while at 7,420 means entering 2,420 of 5,000 (48%).
What size should a progress bar be for Instagram stories?
1080×1920 pixels (9:16). Keep text away from the top 250 and bottom 250 pixels, where Instagram places its own buttons.
How do I make a text progress bar for a caption or bio?
Use the text progress bar generator on this page. It builds a bar from block characters such as ▓░ or ●○ that you can paste into Instagram captions, X posts, Discord or Notion, where images are not allowed.
Can I make a fundraising thermometer?
Yes. Choose “Thermometer” as the progress style, or open the dedicated fundraising thermometer page, which is pre-set with a $ goal.
Can I make an animated progress bar?
This tool exports still images. To animate, export several PNGs at different values and place them in sequence in your video editor.
